What got me wasn't the surface-level “historical investigation into witchcraft in Scotland” setup, it was how quickly that sharpens into something more unsettling once the patterns behind the accusations begin to emerge. You go from a localized historical curiosity to something broader, where the real focus isn’t just on isolated events—but on power, manipulation, and how fear can be used to control entire populations.

The idea of starting from a single standing stone and uncovering a much larger network of hysteria and persecution is a strong hook. Especially with how it connects personal stories to wider political motives. That tension—between accepted history and hidden truth—is where the book really stands out.

And then layering in the question of whether all of the accused were truly innocent, along with the inconsistencies in recorded history, adds a deeper level of intrigue, where the narrative feels less like a fixed account and more like an active investigation. That tension—between fact and distortion, belief and evidence, fear and reality—is what should be front and center in how this book gets pitched to new readers, and I don’t think it currently is.
